would going back to previous firmware that maybe cant read 4k be too much of a hassle? if not ill just leave it alone. Is there a reason for this? i really need to burn bdxl discs but im guessing i cant have best of two worlds since the 4k reading of discs are fine. The sticker on the drive itself says WH14NS40 by the way. i tried burning bdr 50gb, bdxl, mdisc, all failed. the previous bluray drive works fine so im sure its the drive itself and not some bandwidth issue. I have it hooked to an external sata to usb converter. Tried searching for this answer and the closest i could come to an answer was cross flashing of firmware but i don't think it fits my issue here? Bought a drive and it totally can read 4k, it extracts the file fine however, once i try to burn files using anyburn or burnaware it gets a write error or it just flat out does not work/takes too long to respond.
